In "old world" traditions, gifts are exchanged on 6 January - the 12th day of Christmas, (12 days after Christmas) the day the Roman Catholic Church celebrates to commemorate the day the 3 magi's found the Christ child, via the star in the sky, and presented their gifts to Him.

Oh come on...maybe people are just wising up to the fact that Christmas is really just a pagan celebration to begin with. The holiday wasn't even an accepted "Christian" holiday until the fourth century when Rome converted to Christianity & "the Church" began to co-opt pagan rituals in order to make/force conversion easier for the previously pagan populations. Everything about it, from the tree, to the mistletoe, to the presents - even to the date 25 December - are all previously pagan winter solstice symbols. Historians even say that Jesus was likely born in June & not December at all.

This "war on Christmas" is so tired already. If Christians want to celebrate this time of year as a birthday time for Jesus they are free to do so. I myself am an atheist, but I still enjoy the warmth of the season. I hate the Zionists, but to twist the more secular leanings of the holiday into a Jewish conspiracy just lends itself to ridicule and belittles the otherwise very serious social/political agenda arguments that do have much validity and value.

One could argue that the whole season has been co-opted by capitalist dogma - but to let those kinds of arguments get in the way of the warmth of the season among people just gives a win to those who choose to use it for any and all political purposes - and that includes the author of this article.

Give it a rest and try to find some joy this holiday season. That's what it's all about in the first place. If one relies on television to define the reasons for the season then that person should stop watching tv & get a life. So kids are excited about presents and they don't figure the Jesus story into the holiday much - maybe they're not Christian. Kids who go to church are well aware of this interpretation - let them celebrate as they see fit. This is still something of a free country - people should be free to have fun & celebrate in the ways that they want to.

I was raised Catholic & it was rarely stressed that Christmas was a "solemn" holiday - it was a time of joy and happiness about the birth of a special child. If you're Christian - try to think about that. To everything there is a season - and this one should be spent enjoying those two things as much as possible. It's the one time of year when people can feel free to do so - a time for a return to innocence. Those who choose to politicize the season - on any side - are simply Grinch's who fail to really understand why we celebrate Christmas.
