According to the study published in Rheumatology, bad early life experiences may harm the brain system, causing not only behavioral problems in childhood but also chronic pain in adulthood.

Merck's new blood thinner more effective

An experimental new blood thinner is reported to be safer and more effective than the commonly used warfarin in treating patients suffering from atrial fibrillation.

More than half of the patients suffering from a heart condition are not taking the most effective dose of Warfarin, a blood thinner used for more than 50 years, due to concerns about serious bleeding risks.

Tropical cyclone Tomas hits Fiji

A powerful cyclone has hit northern Fiji, flattening houses and villages, and forcing some 5,000 people to leave their homes.

People fled to some 200 evacuation centers as Cyclone Tomas with winds of up to 205 kilometers per hour ripped through Fiji's northern islands on Monday.

Study says diabetic drug not heart tonic

A new study raises doubt over the belief that Starlix and Diovan can prevent the progress of diabetes, lowering the risk of heart disease in at risk sufferers.

"Most experts believed that nateglinide [the chemical name of Starlix] would prevent diabetes and that valsartan [the chemical name of Diovan] would reduce cardiovascular events in this population [diabetics at high risk for both diabetes and heart disease]," said lead researcher Robert Califf.

Beckham to miss World Cup due to injury

Orthopedic surgeon Sakari Orava said full recovery for the 34-year-old would likely take several months.

Reports say Cardinal Sean Brady failed to inform authorities after admitting that he was present at meetings where two allegedly abused teenagers were made to sign vows of silence.

Plavix receives new 'black box' warning

FDA officials have added a new warning label to the anti-clotting drug Plavix, stressing that not metabolizing the pill may cause non-responsiveness in some patients.

Plavix, the second most commonly used blood thinner, is believed to reduce the risk of heart attack, unstable angina, stroke and cardiovascular death in patients with heart disease.
