The Australian state of Victoria is bracing itself for more rain a day after the most severe storm in 38 years lashed the city of Melbourne.

26 millimeters of rain was recorded in Melbourne within the first hour of the storm.

Earthquake rocks eastern Turkey

An earthquake of 6.0 magnitude has rocked eastern Turkey, killing at least seven people.

The quake struck at 04:32am local time (02:32 GMT) on Monday, near  the Karakocan town in the eastern province of Elazig - at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

Three strong aftershocks hit Chile during UN chief visit

Three strong aftershocks have spread new fears among Chileans as visiting UN chief Ban Ki-moon pledges 10 million dollars in emergency aid to the devastated country.

A first 6.2-magnitude aftershock jolted people awake at 6:20 a.m. (0920 GMT) Friday, just six days after a 8.8 magnitude quake which along with a tsunami, left more than 800 people dead and some two million homeless.

Methane bubbles found in Arctic seas

Large emissions of the greenhouse gas methane are welling up from the East Siberian Arctic Shelf, scientists have warned.

“The sub-sea permafrost should act as a cap or seal, preventing leakage,” said Natalia Shakhova, of the University of Fairbanks in Alaska.

6.4-magnitude earthquake rattles Taiwan

A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale has hit southern Taiwan.

The US Geological Survey reported early on Thursday that the quake whose epicenter was located at the depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles), struck about 70 kilometers from the main southern city of Kaohsiung.

Tonnes of dead fish raise stink in Rio

Amid serious concerns over climate change, the mass death of tonnes of fish on the shores of Rio de Janeiro's main lagoon has raised an alarm for a global warming disaster.

About 100 city clean-up crews say they have removed some 90 tonnes of dead fish so far on the shores of a popular beachside lagoon in Rio.

Eighteen people have been confirmed dead in France following gusts of up to 150 kilometers (93 mph) per hour hit the country on Sunday.

A massive magnitude-8.5 earthquake has struck western coastal areas of Chile, triggering tsunami warnings for the South American country and neighboring Peru and Ecuador.

The early morning giant tremor hit offshore Chile around 100 kilometers northwest of Concepcion, the capital of Concepcion Province, on Saturday.
