NEW YORK, Nov. 20 (Agencies) – Time Inc. says it is providing millions of full-screen-resolution photos from LIFE magazine's archive for free public perusal on Google.
"Millions of images have been scanned and made available on Google Image Search today with all 10 million images to be available in the coming months," Time said in a statement on Tuesday.
"LIFE will now reach a broader audience and engage them online with the incredible depth and breadth of the LIFE Photo Archive from serious world events, to Hollywood celebrities to whimsical photographs," said LIFE president, Andrew Blau.
The images will include work by renowned photojournalists such as Alfred Eisenstaedt, Margaret Bourke-White, Gordon Parks and W. Eugene Smith. Also available will be Hugo Jaeger's iconic photos from Nazi-era Germany, and unique images from the assassination of J.K.Kennedy.
Blau added that the copyright and ownership of all images remains with Time.
"Bloggers pasting photos into blogs are our lowest priority," he explained. "LIFE's first priority will be to pursue blatant misuse such as unauthorized use of the images on commercial products."
Access to the never-before-seen collection will be available at images.google.com/hosted/life.
